Tantra versus Fifth Step of Yoga: Pratyahara aka Detachment

"Tantra advocates involvement. Yoga advocates pratyahara or withdrawal from sensual pleasure, which it declares as its fifth step. And nothing can be deadlier to play the game of life like dead men walking than this fifth one is." - I took my assessment further.

Detachment

"Yes, withdrawal certainly is dangerous; but why on earth did they even think of advocating it as one of their steps?" - Eva was really feeling bad about it.

"People got indulged in their sensual pleasures as addictions to them, and so pratyahara came up as an extreme reaction of withdrawal against this extreme addiction of theirs. It was just a lack of insight and balance!" - I showed my helplessness with the gesture of my hands and shoulders.

Detachment

"It's like starving all through your life only since over-eating kills!" - She laughed aloud.

"Why couldn't they eat in moderation?" - I added my punch to hers.

"By moderation you mean..." - Her eyes looked toward mine in question.

"… Involvement! Total involvement in your sensual pleasure right now and here, not in your mind but in your brain through your senses only! It's mind that gets addicted and not the senses or brain. These pleasure-hating people mistook the messenger for the real culprit and started thrashing the poor creature." - I started laughing as Eva joined me in.
