Leaving the naked ascetic where he was on his mission of life in Pandukeshwar, I moved further on to my destination in Badrinath.

Badrinath is a famous pilgrimage situated in the upper ranges of the Himalayas in India.

Its beauty is really breath taking, nestled among the snow-clad mountain peaks all around. You feel you have ascended on to the heavens as you reach the 10,000 feet high valley, which is the source of Badri Ganga, a tributary to the famous and highly revered river the Ganga.

I thought of visiting the famous temple over there. As I reached, I saw people standing in a very, very long queue waiting for their turn to enter the temple, which by no means could come anytime before 3 to 4 hours. There was a parallel queue also in which not more than 5-10 people were there.
I inquired about the second queue as to what it was, and by the answer I got from the priest I came to know it was a VIP queue for which I could buy a ticket in 500 rupees - not a small sum at all!
I told the priest I was going back as I was in no mood either to wait that long or to become a VIP by spending 500 rupees. The priest's religious sentiments got hurt and he challenged me I wouldn't dare go back without offering my prayers to God inside the temple.
"I'm not very fond of that." - I said and turned back.
With the speed of lightening did the priest spring up from his seat and stood in the very front of me - "No one ever in the history of Badrinath has ever gone from outside the temple back without offering prayers to God. How can you?"
I held his hand and pulled him to my side gently, saying - "So let the history be created today." - and climbed down the stairs of the grand temple that it was. Just to play the game of life in a fairer way than the humanity plays on the planet!
The priest kept looking at me taken aback in disbelief as did the people standing in the two queues - the long and the short!
It's not only the story of one single religion. Every religion sells. Different religions sell in different ways.
And it sells quite costly as well!
