Cake Decorating as Part of Christmas decorations

Christmas cake decorating was another skill that earned Jean not less than other Christmas decorations if not more, as a business.

And he made a very good use of butterflies along with the traditional Santa's and reindeers on it.

How he made them was a real interesting procedure.

He made colorful sugar pastes in almost all the colors ranging from dark deep ones to the lightest white as snow.

Then he took some water and a paintbrush along with icing in an acing bag and some modeling tools to give shape to his characters.

He did a Santa for me.

He took some red paste and shaped Santa's body with it. Then he rolled out two narrow legs and attached them to the body applying some water to join the two.

Next he rolled out a long and thin sausage of white paste, which he shaped as lining of Santa's coat sticking it to the body with water again.

Arms were cut and joined the same way as legs.

Then he rolled a ball of peach paste and attached it on the top with the help of a cocktail pick to stop the head from rolling down from its place on the neck. Using his modeling tools he made two eyeholes on the head-ball.

Now he shaped Santa's hands with his modeling tools and attached them to the ends of the arms.

Next was the turn of attaching the white beard to the head on its lower periphery and then moustaches. Below the moustaches he made a dent in the beard that started looking like Santa's mouth.

What was left now was simply attaching one nose-ball above the moustaches and two ear shapes on the sides of the head.

Now a conical red hat on his head, black long-boots at the ends of his legs, some white lining on his cuffs and ends of legs above shoes and a small white ball to top off his hat and almost everything was over except for the eyes now!

In the end he piped the eyes with royal icing into them and Santa was all ready to play the game of life, it looked!

This was all about making Santa for his cake decorating as part of his Christmas decorations that he was as passionate about as he was skillful at.

Santa was supposed to sit on the top of a tasty cake now adding beauty to the taste... like adding cherries to the cake!
